What is Gutenberg?

Those who didn’t like this new editor wanted to revert back and thus some WP devs did a miracle for them. Although if you are into trying new stuff, then do try Gutenberg, it is quite versatile. But if you are somewhat getting irritated by using it, then there is a way to get rid of it. Gutenberg arrived with the goal to modernize the WP experience and it does that job pretty well. However, getting along the blocks is not an easy job especially for old users. And since there is a way to Keep the Classic Editor in WordPress! They don’t really have to use Gutenberg anymore.

And yes, using the Classic Editor will not affect the performance of your site. Nor it will bring your site back to the stone age. But if are more into customization than just typing, Gutenberg is for you. Since it allows you to drag and drop items in your post on the page. That way you can easily organize your work and bring rich multimedia content in unique layouts. And after the release of WP 5.0, Gutenberg is the default editor.

Currently, there are 2 ways to get rid of Gutenberg. Both are plugins and offer the same thing. However, one entirely replaces Gutenberg while the other one just disables it. Without further ado, let’s continue to see how we can Keep the Classic Editor in WordPress.

Disable Gutenberg with the Classic Editor Plugin

In this method, all we need is to install the plugin and it will do the rest of the job. No need to do any customization in the plugin as it works right from the start.

Download this Classic Editor Plugin, install and activate it. It is also available in the WP database, you can search it there as well.

Upon activation, it will automatically disable the Gutenberg. However, this plugin lets you keep both the Classic Editor and Gutenberg at the same time.

Simply go to the Settings > Writing page in your WordPress admin area. You’ll see the option under “Classic editor settings

Then click save changes and you are good to go. Once that is done, every time you want to edit your post, you’ll see the option of Classic Editor too.

Use Classic Editor with Disable Gutenberg Plugin

If you are looking to disable Gutenberg for certain posts or pages, then this will help you. First, you need to install and activate the Disable Gutenberg plugin.

Activate it and navigate to Settings > Disable Gutenberg. By default, you’ll see it being disabled for every user and post. Uncheck the Complete Disable option if you want to disable it for certain stuff.

Then tick those options for which you want to disable Gutenberg. This option is pretty handy if you are using a plugin that is not compatible with Gutenberg. Since most of the useful plugins that we use are old and haven’t been updated. A person really wants to get rid of Gutenberg to get the functionality back. But this way they can keep Gutenberg and all their loveable plugins.
